"Mark my words," Biden told donors at a Seattle fund-raiser Sunday night. "It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We're about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. "Watch. We're going to have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy. "And he's going to need help . . . to stand with him. Because it's not going to be apparent initially; it's not going to be apparent that we're right."
Well isn't that lovely. "The One the world's been waiting for" is going to be ambushed. Putin, Ahmadinijad, Kim Jong Il, Chavez and the rest of the Axis of Evil Street boys are waiting for The One in a dark alley with a baseball bat.
And it's probably true although one doesn't expect to hear it from the VP nominee unless we're talking about Joe "diarrhea mouth" Biden.
The New York Post reminds us what happened when we had a new inexperienced President, although JFK had a much fatter resume than Obama:
"For those who don't recall, it was a scant five months after JFK became president that Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev took his measure. Kennedy had just bungled the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion in Cuba, then went off to a summit in Vienna - where Khruschev determined that the rookie chief executive could be had. Two months later, construction began on the Berlin Wall,
precipitating a crisis that nearly led to a US-Soviet shooting war in Europe. And 14 months after that came the Cuban Missile Crisis - when nuclear Armageddon was only barely averted. "
It's probably not a coincidence that the Obama camp has just been briefed by the Bush administration on potential threats and hot spots facing the country:
White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten reportedly held a meeting this week with senior White House staffers and representatives from both the McCain and Obama camps. The goal was to make sure everyone is up to speed on the latest threats and have the information they need to be ready come inauguration day, Jan. 20.
Biden now says that he can think of several things that can happen. No kidding Joe, so can I and everyone else who takes this stuff seriously.
** Vladimir "KGB" Putin could invade the Ukraine or other former Soviet satellites in his quest to regain Russian influence in Europe.
**Hugo Chavez (Bill Ayers buddy) is buying tanks and other heavy weapons from Russia and could use them to threaten and perhaps invade Colombia or other countries in the region.
**North Korea has an ailing dictator and the military might decide to exert its influence with some more nuke tests.
**Iran's mullahs have plenty of opportunities for mischief in the Middle East and might want to start another war through Hezbollah in Lebanon, pick a fight in the Straits of Hormuz or just sponsor a massive terrorist attack somewhere, even here.
The list goes on but the point is made. It's still a real dangerous world out there and it will be even more dangerous with an untested rookie in the White House who is ambivalent about his country to begin with.
