Making the point that the Tsarnaev brothers’ Muslim faith at the moment
bears little relevance to the investigation into the brothers’ decision
to attack the Boston Marathon last week, MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry observed that Tsarnaev’s faith is about as relevant to the investigation right now as are Ben Affleck movies about violent events in Boston... “I keep wondering: is it possible that there would ever be a discussion
like, ‘oh, this is because of Ben Affleck and the connection between
Boston and movies about violence?’” Harris-Perry asked. “And, of course,
the answer is ‘no.’”
Oh, no. Their faith isn’t relevant at all. Because we all know that
viewers of Ben Affleck movies also commit several bombings and terrorist attacks worldwide every day. Faith would only be relevant in
the highly unlikely event the culprit was a conservative Christian. Then
MSNBC would be falling over themselves as they tried to tie this on
everyone from the Tea Party to Ronald Reagan.
And let's forget about the 15% -30% of Muslims in most Islamic countries who support terrorism. That's only between 200 and 400 million people. Just open your mind until your brains fall out.
This one has created quite an uproar over the last few days. But Melissa Harris-Perry's views are fairly common in leftists circles, especially in academia, where Ms. Perry can be found when she's not broadcasting to MSNBC's miniscule audience. Her Communitarian and collectivist notions of child rearing can be heard almost daily on college campuses throughout the country.
Normally, the left isn't this publicly candid, since even they - mostly - know how toxic an unvarnished expression of their true intentions can be to most Americans. That's why MSNBC can be so useful and instructive. At minimum, dozens of people were involved in the production and airing of this promo, so the network clearly felt it reflected the views of its audience, and themselves:
“We have never invested as much in public education as we should
have because we’ve always had kind of a private notion of children –
‘Your kid is yours, and totally your responsibility.’ We haven’t had a
very collective notion that these are our children. So part of it is we
have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their
parents, or kids belong to their families, and recognize that kids
belong to whole communities.”
The United States spends more per student on education than any industrialized country in the world, and receives mediocre results at best. But that's not quite what Ms Perry is talking about. She wants the community (State) and its values do be the dominant influence in children's lives. Skyrocketing out of wedlock births, especially prevalent among younger and less educated women, have provided the left with a growing number of children for whom the government becomes the second parent, and the school as the place that provides the very food they eat. Many of these kids will never learn much of anything useful and will be far more likely to have negative outcomes as adults, but they will be sufficiently indoctrinated with a statist value system. If you belong to the community as a child, then you will belong to it as an adult.
The problem for Ms. Perry is that too many families are the biggest influence their kids lives, and they teach them subversive values and beliefs like liberty, individualism and self reliance. They may even tell their kids - as I did with my two college graduate sons - to not believe everything their teachers told them, and to be critically thinking individuals above all else. This is why the left continuously attacks home-schooling, with some making a constitutional argument for outright bans. The left's opposition to vouchers and charter schools is not just about the greed of the NEA. It's about future generations universally believing their self worth is calculated based on their value or cost to the collective.
Like many parents, I view the raising of children as a long process of gradually letting go. That we teach, and then give them increasing levels of independence and responsibility, until they are ready to make their own way in the world.
The authoritarians view your children not as an end in themselves, with the right to live life for its own sake, but as a means to their ends.
Keith Olbermann and the rest of the moonbat left have their panties in a bunch over a Republican 9/11 tribute video:
"I'm sorry, it's necessary to say this and I wanted to separate myself from the others on the air about this. If at this late date, any television network had of its own accord showed that much videotape, and that much graphic videotape of 9/11, and I speak as somebody who lost a few friends there, it, we, would be rightly eviscerated at all quarters, perhaps by the Republican Party itself, for exploiting the memories of the dead and perhaps even for trying to evoke that pain again. If you reacted to that videotape the way I did, I apologize. It is a subject of great pain for many of us still and was probably not appropriate to be shown. We'll continue in a moment."
We only wish you and your MSM comrades would show something like that. Admit it, you're upset that Republicans reminded everyone that we're still in a world war that you and the Democrat Party don't want to fight. Hell, you don't even want to name the enemy.
And don't hand me that "I lost friends there" crap to bolster what little credibility you have. So did I and a lot of other New Yorkers. That doesn't give you unique moral authority over anyone. Evoke pain? The video should of evoked anger and resolve over the slaughter of your fellow citizens. There were also images of numerous Islamo-Fascist attacks on us prior to 9/11. That should have reminded even an intellectual lightweight like you that this war started long before that day.
How many times do you think footage from Pearl Harbor was shown in newsreels during WWII? You do know all the war footage back then was promoted and approved by the FDR (government) administration, don't you? Would you have been against that?
The bottom line is that you don't give a rat's ass about the victims of 9/11 other than how you can use them to exploit your own political agenda. Talk about projection! The problem for you is that those images remind everyone of who the real enemy is and it's not George Bush or your own country.
The McCain camp has grown a set at least temporarily with this video documenting the shameless idol worship of Obama by the media. To call mainstream journalism a profession is an insult to real professionals everywhere. These dupes are as lacking in critical thinking skills as Saint Obama's fanatical followers.
Mike Barnicle is yet another dinosaur media member who's whistling past the graveyard as he lashes out at bloggers.
"these nitwits at home with their computers, these bloggers, who [snorts] think they're part of the news media, can then accuse us of being soft on this candidate or that candidate."
"In 1998, Barnicle was forced to resign from the Boston Globe amid questions about the sources of two of his columns. The first column, dated August 2, 1998, allegedly contained unattributed material from the 1997 book Brain Droppings by George Carlin.[1]
Review of previous Barnicle columns by the Globe revealed another possible fabrication in an October 8, 1995 piece. The column recounted the story of two sets of parents with cancer-stricken children. When one of the boys, a black child, died, the parents of the other boy, a white child who had begun to recover, sent the dead child's parents a check for $10,000 USD. When the Globe could not locate the people in the story, Barnicle said he did not obtain the story from any of the parents, but from a nurse, yet did not produce the name of the nurse. When editors could not find a death that matched that of the child's in the piece, Barnicle was asked to resign."
If this is the standards of Mike Barnicle's dying media, then I don't want any part of it. And if we're so insignificant, then why mention us at all. Doth protesteth too much Mike.
