Hollywood Fascism

Family Guy's Stewie sports a Mc'Cain/Palin button while wearing a Nazi uniform. How original. It's also factually and historically inaccuarate as the Nazi's full name was the National Socialist Party and that's what they were. Hitler would find far more to like in the Democrat Platform than with the Republican's. Projection anyone? Someone should send these guys a copy of Liberal Fascism.

The Hollytard community represents the most intolerant and insular industry in the country. I thought creative types understood the concept of irony. Apparently not. Here's a story about the Hollywood resistance:

"It's no secret that the entertainment industry is overwhelmingly liberal -- political donations this presidential cycle from the movie, TV and music industries recently were running about 86% Democrat versus 14% Republican. But being outnumbered is one thing, being bullied by your liberal co-workers into keeping your opinions to yourself is quite another.

"Are you kidding me? Of course it's true," Kelsey Grammer said when asked whether the town is hostile to conservatives. "I wish Hollywood was a two-party town, but it's not."

Grammer said he knows of a makeup trailer that sported a sign warning Republicans to keep out and of U.S. war veterans who keep their backgrounds a secret from their Hollywood co-workers because they hear them belittle the military.

He even said that, earlier in his career, his job was threatened by a prominent sitcom director who demanded he donate money to Barbara Boxer's U.S. Senate campaign. To keep his job, he gave $10,000 to Boxer and the Democrats.

Venezuela Restricts More Freedom

Hugo Chavez continues to tighten his grip on Venezuela as he moves his country toward dictatorial misery. Like his left wing counterparts in the U.S., (see: Windfall Profits, Rent Control etc.) he believes he can repeal the laws of supply and demand through sheer will. We would all be better off if he would try that with the laws of gravity:

"Under one of the new laws, food retailers or distributors caught skirting government-imposed price controls or hoarding products will be punished with up to six years in prison.Business owners who refuse to produce, import, transport or sell "items of basic necessity" can face up to 10 years in jail.

The decree allows the government to "restrict or prohibit the import, export, distribution, exchange or sale" of certain foods or agricultural products and "take over distribution activities when considered necessary."
He's also forming what will undoubtedly be a Stasi like civilian spy network that will report counter revolutionary activities to the government.
"Critics also raised concerns about a decree that creates a new National Bolivarian Militia _ a branch of the military consisting of civilian volunteers who will help neighborhood-based "communal councils" establish "defense committees."
Socialism and Communism can only be implemented through the threat or use of force. Whether it's in Europe, Venezuela, Cuba or the U.S., the differences are only a matter of the degree to which it is used. It seeks to deny and suppress human nature and individual dignity in order to advance government power disguised as "justice". In short, any philosophy or policy that subjugates individual rights for the "common good" is immoral. It's slavery, plain and simple.

These new laws in Venezuela say that individuals must relinquish private property whether they want to or not at a price dictated by by the government. Their property and lives now belong to the collective, which is the state.

What's striking is the insanity and stupidity of this secular religion's adherents who continue to sing its praises despite a long history of abject failure and injustice. The American activists, Hollytards and politicians who support Chavez show us what useful idiots they are every time they open their mouths. They deserve our ridicule and contempt.

Venezuela will now see even more capital, investment and people flee for friendlier confines. There's a reason no one's allowed to leave Cuba and North Korea. Although I suspect Chavez will just turn Venezuela into the next Zimbabwe.

Street Fair in Pelosi Land

This is what passes for entertainment in Nancy Pelosi's district. Welcome to Up Your Alley 2008! It's nice to know that the person setting the congressional agenda for the whole country represents such a mainstream population.

And I'm not talking about homosexuality. It's about the malignant narcissism and Anti-American sentiment that pervades this cesspool of nihilism and depravity.

But speaking of homosexuality:

"YCDC understated number of new HIV infections in US

Yearly estimates allow better recognition of trends in the U.S. epidemic. For example, the new report found that infections are falling among heterosexuals and injection drug users.
Some experts celebrated that finding, saying it's a tribute to prevention efforts, including nearly 200 syringe exchange programs now operating in 36 states despite a federal ban on funding for such projects."

"But they also lamented the CDC's finding that infections continue to increase in gay and bisexual men, who accounted for more than half of HIV infections in 2006. Also, more than a third of those with HIV are younger than 30.

Gee! Ya think?

Some advocates say that suggests a need for more prevention efforts, particularly targeting younger gay and bisexual men."

Actually, these guys know quite well how to prevent AIDS and throwing good money after bad isn't going to change anyone's behavior. Why is it that I should care more about their lives than they do?

A Foreigner Visits Liberal America

The left likes to harangue us over our "lost standing" in the (left wing) world. Here's a take on how Portland Oregon is being Europeanized in the Obama and Democrat mold.

"I am on the MAX Red Line light rail car going from downtown Portland to the
Airport. Some things socialists do better. Among them are public transportation,
recycling, French poetry readings, yoga, coffee, artisan food and arthouse
cinema. Would it that the counterscale were not so much more loaded..."

The Cities (and states) that Liberalism Ruins

NRO's Rich Lowry comments that "Detroit is a stark statement on the failure of urban liberalism". Now we learn that Detroit has earned the distinction of having the lowest high school graduation rate of the fifty largest cities in the country, coming in at a disgraceful 24.9%.

It goes beyond that. Looking at domestic migration rates i.e. how many people move from one state to another, a pattern emerges that is an illustration of why the Berlin Wall was built. People are moving from high tax and regulation states to lower ones. It comes as no surprise to anyone but the left that states like Michigan, Illinois, New York and New Jersey have the highest amount of residents leaving for greener pastures. When the Hawaiian government can chase out 12% more residents than it gained in less than fifteen years, you would think a light bulb would go off in someone's head. The Tax Foundation posted a great April Fools send up of clueless governors on this subject.

These people are moving to places like Florida, Texas, Nevada and New Hampshire. Those four states are some of the few that have no income tax, among other benefits to the productive. And many of them aren't moving that far. New Hampshire gained 6.1% in net domestic migration from 2000-2004 while Massachusetts lost 6.6%. Visit the fast growing town of Nashua that sits on the northern border of Massachusetts and is within commuting distance of Boston and the high-tech I-128 corridor to see how incentives matter. The same trend can be seen in Nevada and Arizona as they accept more and more California refugees.

Unfortunately a lot of liberals are moving too and taking their bad ideas with them. They're also oblivious of what caused them to move in the first place.

It took Rudy Guilani, a conservative by New York standards, to repair some of the damage done by his predecessors. But even he couldn't solve the city's systemic problems that cause taxpaying citizens and businesses to flee, leaving behind an even higher percentage of New Yorkers living off of the public teat. Detroit is just the latest and most glaring example of liberal failure. Conservatives and Libertarians need to spend more time pointing out the empirical evidence that's right in front of everyone's nose.
