The Slow Death of a Hoax

The bogus hypothesis of Catastrophic Anthropogenic (Man-Made) Global Warming is a terminal case, and now it's just a question of much longer we'll have to endure this nonsense. A good sign has come from the Economist, who has been on board the CAGW ship for some time, but is now having second thoughts over the fact that global temperatures have been flat for almost two decades. When a well respected,  international publication starts looking for the exits, you know the end has moved a lot closer:

OVER the past 15 years air temperatures at the Earth’s surface have been flat while greenhouse-gas emissions have continued to soar. The world added roughly 100 billion tonnes of carbon to the atmosphere between 2000 and 2010. That is about a quarter of all the CO₂ put there by humanity since 1750...Temperatures fluctuate over short periods, but this lack of new warming is a surprise... If they remain flat, they will fall outside the models’ range within a few years.

That doesn't mean they've completely thrown in the towel. When you've banked a lot of your credibility on a fraud, it's natural to slowly back out of the room:

  It does not mean global warming is a delusion... But the puzzle does need explaining. 

The mismatch might mean that—for some unexplained reason—there has been a temporary lag between more carbon dioxide and higher temperatures in 2000-10. Or it might be that the 1990s, when temperatures were rising fast, was the anomalous period. Or, as an increasing body of research is suggesting, it may be that the climate is responding to higher concentrations of carbon dioxide in ways that had not been properly understood before. This possibility, if true, could have profound significance both for climate science and for environmental and social policy.

Or it likely means the alarmists don't know what the hell they're talking about and never did. There's always been a lot of holes in the CAGW argument, that have been met with ridicule, threats, hysteria and logical fallacies. But the biggest ones are also the most basic: How is it that climate scientists can predict the future behavior of an enormous, non-linear system with thousands of variables to any acceptable degree of accuracy?   How can they even measure current worldwide temperature averages to 1/100 of a degree with any confidence? It's just not believable, especially when you consider that all the historic measurements beyond thirty years are just speculative reconstructions of unreliable data. And how is it that alarmist climate scientists are immune from confirmation bias in the face of all the money, power and prestige at stake in this debate?

The Church of Global Warming is also facing an ironic dilemma in its quest to eliminate fossils fuels and dismantle modern civilization:

 But the real capper is that the United States actually achieved its (unratified) Kyoto Protocol target without the help of environmentalists.  In fact, we hit the Kyoto target in spite of environmentalists—it’s entirely the result of the fracking natural gas boom that environmentalists wished had never happened and are retrospectively trying to roll back.  Coal-fired power is being rapidly supplanted by cheap gas-fired power, which has half the CO₂ emissions as coal per BTU of energy.  If environmentalists had their way, CO₂ emissions might actually go back up, because we’d switch back to coal.

That's not good news for CAGW high-priests like Bill Mckibben, who now finds himself simultaneously screaming for reduced carbon emissions while opposing the free market phenomenon of hydraulic fracturing that is largely responsible for reducing those emissions.    

The well-deserved death of this biggest fraud in human history is coming but it wont be easy or pretty. The amount of money, power, careers and infrastructure that depends on the CAGW myth is huge and has weaved itself into much public policy. These parasites will not go quietly and can always be expected to dream up novel arguments and new scares. That's what they do, because it's not about the environment and never has been.

The whole idea that carbon dioxide is the main cause of the recent global warming is based on a guess that was proved false by empirical evidence during the 1990s. But the gravy train was too big, with too many jobs, industries, trading profits, political careers, and the possibility of world government and total control riding on the outcome. So rather than admit they were wrong, the governments, and their tame climate scientists, now outrageously maintain the fiction that carbon dioxide is a dangerous pollutant...

...In science, empirical evidence always trumps theory, no matter how much you are in love with the theory. If theory and evidence disagree, real scientists scrap the theory. But official climate science ignored the crucial weather balloon evidence, and other subsequent evidence that backs it up, and instead clung to their carbon dioxide theory — that just happens to keep them in well-paying jobs with lavish research grants, and gives great political power to their government masters.

There are now several independent pieces of evidence showing that the earth responds to the warming due to extra carbon dioxide by dampening the warming. Every long-lived natural system behaves this way, counteracting any disturbance. Otherwise the system would be unstable. The climate system is no exception, and now we can prove it...

We are now at an extraordinary juncture. Official climate science, which is funded and directed entirely by government, promotes a theory that is based on a guess about moist air that is now a known falsehood. Governments gleefully accept their advice, because the only ways to curb emissions are to impose taxes and extend government control over all energy use. And to curb emissions on a world scale might even lead to world government — how exciting for the political class!

...Finally, to those who still believe the planet is in danger from our carbon dioxide emissions: Sorry, but you’ve been had. Yes, carbon dioxide is a cause of global warming, but it’s so minor it’s not worth doing much about.

Drilling Bans Cost Trillions

Do the Hands Across The Sand knuckleheads know this or even care? Probably neither. Math is hard, but it will be illustrated perfectly when no one can afford to come to Florida's beaches. We're the only country in the world that deliberately leaves energy resources in the ground and off limits. Countries from Canada to Saudi Arabia are more than happy to enable our stupidity by selling us theirs:

"From trying to stimulate jobs in nonexistent ZIP codes at great expense to worshiping the false gods of climate change, our biggest deficit these days may be in the area of common sense. A new study shows that many of our wounds are self-inflicted as we forgo the wealth and jobs to be found in our waters and under our feet.

The study by Science Applications International Corp. at the request of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners, the Gas Technology Institute and others shows the U.S. economy will suffer $2.3 trillion in lost opportunity costs over the next two decades, monies that would go a long way to reining in runaway deficits and creating economic growth.

Critics will say this is another self-serving study paid for by oil industry groups, but unlike the climate change fantasies concocted by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and Britain's Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, the study's data can survive fact-checking and the conclusions are rooted in reality.

Drilling restrictions in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and in offshore areas such as the Chukchi Sea and Outer Continental Shelf, the report says, are denying us access to at least nine years' worth of total U.S. oil and gas consumption...

...These are not climate fantasies derived by running faulty assumptions and bad data through inaccurate computer models. This is simple math, common sense and Economics 101. Energy is expensive. We're leaving vast amounts in the ground while importing it from others. In a word: duh."

The Green Death

With the Global Warming hoax crumbling, it's a good time for a reminder of the continuing genocide caused by radical environmentalism. Doctor Zero explains:

The resulting explosion of mosquito-borne malaria in Africa has claimed over sixty million lives. This was not a gradual process – a surge of infection and death happened almost immediately. The use of DDT reduces the spread of mosquito-borne malaria by fifty to eighty percent, so its discontinuation quickly produced an explosion of crippling and fatal illness. The same environmental movement which has been falsifying data, suppressing dissent, and reading tea leaves to support the global-warming fraud has studiously ignored this blood-drenched “hockey stick” for decades. Cold is Devasting Manatees

Global Warming can certainly be ironic:

So many manatees are turning up stressed from the extreme cold temperatures this winter that it's putting a strain on the statewide system for caring for the injured marine mammals.

Some facilities have become overcrowded, while others are making room by releasing back into the wild manatees that have been in captivity.

Yeah, I know weather is not climate. But since the Church of AGW has been ignoring that fact since day one of this hoax, turnabout is fair play. Besides, now they're telling us that cold weather is a sign of warming. Heads I win, Tails you lose science is anything but.

Three Big Firms Pull Out of Climate Partnership

The collapse of the biggest fraud in human history continues:

WASHINGTON—Three large corporations are quitting the U.S. Climate Action Partnership, a broad group of businesses and environmental organizations that has been instrumental in building support in Washington for capping U.S. emissions of greenhouse gases.

Oil giants BP PLC and ConocoPhillips along with Caterpillar, Inc., the Peoria, Ill., heavy-equipment maker, have decided against renewing their membership in the organization, according to a statement released by the group Tuesday.

Red Cavaney, ConocoPhillips senior vice president for government affairs, said USCAP was focused on getting a climate-change bill passed, whereas Conoco is increasingly concerned with what the details of such a bill would be.

"USCAP was starting to do more and more on trying to get a bill out without trying to work as much on the substance of it," Mr. Cavaney said.

These companies are now seeing their extortionist's power withering away. USCAP is an odd consortium of large industrial corporations
and parasitical environmental groups bent on their destruction e.g. Environmental Defense, Natural Resources Defense Council, The Nature Conservancy and The World Resources Institute.


In other words, USCAP is a protection racket that companies are forced to join in order to avoid nuisance litigation, bad publicity from a compliant media or the wrath of the Eco-Marxists statist patrons in government through regulation and legislation.

Taxpayer funded lunatic and liar James Hansen is now predicting that the Obama admin. has only four years to save the world from global warming:

He's talking about arctic ice melt while ignoring the thickening ice in the antarctic. Nevertheless, can someone explain how melting ice causes sea levels to rise? Has the Archimedes Principle been repealed? I was always taught that melting ice in liquid had no effect on volume.

A Global Warming alarmist is say the battle is lost and we should prepare for the worst:

2008 Coolest on Record

"This year is set to be the coolest since 2000, according to a preliminary estimate of global average temperature that is due to be released next week by the Met Office...The relatively chilly temperatures compared with recent years are not evidence that global warming is slowing however, say climate scientists at the Met Office. "Absolutely not," said Dr Peter Stott, the manager of understanding and attributing climate change at the Met Office's Hadley Centre. "If we are going to understand climate change we need to look at long-term trends."

Really? Then why is it that the Church of Climate Change predicts the apocolypse from GW after every heat wave, hurricane or case of athletes foot? High Priest AlGore never misses a chance to blame all unusual weather events as prima facie evidence of man's destruction of the planet.

This is a naked power grab disguised as science. Anyone who can't or wont see that is either a liar or a fool.

EPA Proposes Passage of Gas Tax

When the Supreme Court declared Natural gasses like Carbon Dioxide and Methane to be pollutants, that gave unelected bureaucrats at the EPA license to charge "fees" or fine those who produce them. That means everyone.

Their latest proposal is to charge ranchers and farmers for every head of cattle or pork. Of course, PETA likes this plan to change your behavior through your wallet:

"It would require farms or ranches with more than 25 dairy cows, 50 beef cattle or 200 hogs to pay an annual fee of about $175 for each dairy cow, $87.50 per head of beef cattle and $20 for each hog...

..."It makes perfect sense if you are looking for ways to cut down on meat consumption and recoup environmental losses," said Bruce Friedrich, a spokesman in Washington for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

"We certainly support making factory farms pay their fair share," he said.

Given the current population of these animals, (pigs, beef, dairy) this amounts to a tax of over $25 billion that bypasses congress' constitutional taxing authority, relieving them of the political fallout of this ridiculous proposal based on a hoax.

Remember folks, every tax, fee or regulation is eventually paid by individuals, one way or another.

No word yet on how the government proposes to tax all the horses, deer, dogs, people and every other living thing that produces these dangerous pollutants every day.

The Triumph of The Eco-Marxists

Barack Obama gave a speech to the Bi-Partisan Governors Climate Summit
that was full of the typical boilerplate lies of the Global Warming hoax along with the predictable solutions of an even more heavy handed government.

He will get his way and this nonsense will be piled on top of a fragile economy already crippled by government meddling and social engineering. And the only solutions on the table is more of the same. The enslavement of the populous by the fascist/socialist elite is almost complete. The irony is that most of the slaves voted for it:

"Few challenges facing America - and the world - are more urgent than combating climate change. The science is beyond dispute and the facts are clear. Sea levels are rising. Coastlines are shrinking. We've seen record drought, spreading famine, and storms that are growing stronger with each passing hurricane season."

This is the most audacious use of the Big Lie in history. Non - Scientists Obama, AlGore and their Eco-Marxist allies either wilfully ignore contrary views or ridicule and blacklist detractors with propaganda from the lap dog media. Obama and his leftist congress along with useful idiot Republicans have vowed to address this mythical problem through higher taxes and energy costs, more regulation and less individual liberty.

Nevertheless, 31,000 American scientists alone have signed the following petition:

"We urge the United States government to reject the global warming agreement that was written in Kyoto, Japan in December, 1997, and any other similar proposals. The proposed limits on greenhouse gases would harm the environment, hinder the advance of science and technology, and damage the health and welfare of mankind.

There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gasses is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth."

We also have this extensive list of real experts that are skeptical at best of this "crisis". It also comes as no surprise that the True Believers refuse to subject their claims to even the most basic requirements of Scientific Theory.

In fact, not one person has stepped to claim the $500,000 prize in The Ultimate Global Warming Challenge:

$500,000 will be awarded to the first person to prove, in a scientific manner, that humans are causing harmful global warming. The winning entry will specifically reject both of the following two hypotheses:

UGWC Hypothesis 1
Manmade emissions of greenhouse gases do not discernibly, significantly and predictably cause increases in global surface and tropospheric temperatures along with associated stratospheric cooling.

Obama: Bankrupt 49% Of Our Energy

"So, if somebody wants to build a coal plant, they can — it’s just that it will bankrupt them, because they are going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted."

When a Presidential talks about bankrupting any U.S. company or industry, it should disqualify him for any high office, much less the Presidency. Unfortunately there may be a majority of Americans who either A) Don't know anything about The One other than he's The One or B) Are ignorant of economics, history and just about everything else and actually think his statist philosophies are a good idea. Or C) Do know all this and will vote for him anyway because they don't believe a collectivist dictatorship could happen here. Yeah, well they thought that in Russia, Germany, Cuba, Zimbabwe and hundreds of other places.

The coal industry has responded:

You know, when I was asked earlier about the issue of coal, uh, you know — Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it — whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, uh, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.

Q: How do you convince people to change their lifestyles, to live differently, or to turn the question on its ear, are voters ahead of the politicians on this stuff? Do they get it, and maybe the politicians don’t?
A: Well, I think, uh, I think voters do understand it. I think it is important for us to send some price signals to change behavior.

This is the crux of Obama's economic philosophy. Use the tax and regulatory structure to force individuals into behaving the way the anointed believes they should. It will never stop, it never does. Statists like Obama see individualism and free will as a threat to their power and their unrelenting quest to re-order society to their liking.

If you accept the notion that it's government's role to tell you how much energy to use, then why not the food you eat, the place you live or the things you say or believe?

American Oil Hypocrites

Outer Continental Shelf was mentioned by three of the most powerful people in
the global energy business: the head of OPEC; the chief executive of Brazil’s
national oil company, Petrobras; and the Saudi oil minister. All of them said
the United States should start drilling in its offshore areas.

During a press conference in Madrid, Chakib Khelil, the Algerian
oil minister and president of OPEC, was asked what the United States could do to
lower oil prices. He mentioned three things: stabilize the value of the dollar,
increase energy efficiency, and “open up your exploration. In Algeria, we have a
bidding round going on. We are open. The U.S. also needs to open…offshore
Florida, offshore Alaska, need to be opened to exploration.”

The environmental movement's lack of interest in these other countries is rooted in both cowardice and the common ground they find with the the heavy handed governments in OPEC. The Eco-Marxist's focus on the U.S. is has less to do with the environment than it does with crippling the American economy.

Pickens Plans to Steal Property for Windfarm

Not only is Pseudo-Capitalist T. Boone Pickens trying to pick the pockets of American taxpayers with his phony plan, he's now convinced the Texas legislature to give him the power of eminent domain by granting him his own fiefdom, with Pickens and his wife as King and Queen.

"Simply put, Pickens’ pitch is “embrace wind power to help break
our ‘addiction’ to foreign oil.” There is, however, another intriguing component
to Pickens’ plan that
goes unmentioned in his TV commercials, media interviews and web site -- water
rights, which he owns more of than any other American...

At Pickens’ behest, the Texas legislature changed state
law to allow the two residents of an 8-acre parcel of land in Roberts County to
vote to create a municipal water district, a government agency with eminent
domain powers. Who were the voters? They were Pickens’ wife and the manager of Pickens’ nearby
ranch. And who sits on the board of directors of this water district?
They are the parcel’s three other non-resident landowners, all Pickens’ employees.

What’s this got to do with Pickens’ wind-power plan? Just as he needs pipelines
to sell his water, he also needs transmission lines to sell his wind-generated
power. Rights of way for transmission lines are also acquired through eminent
domain -- and, once again, the Texas legislature has come to Pickens’ aid.

Earlier this year, Texas changed its law to allow renewable energy
projects (like Pickens’ wind farm) to obtain rights-of-way by
piggybacking on a water district’s eminent domain power. So Pickens can now use his
water district’s authority to also condemn land for his future wind farm’s
transmission lines."

Jellyfish Predict End of the World

You've got to admire the tenacity of the Church of Global Warming acolytes. They just keep throwing anything and everything at the wall, hoping something sticks. The New York Times dutifully reports this latest bit of hysteria with the dying newspaper's now painfully obvious agenda driven reporting.

From Spain to New York, to Australia, Japan and Hawaii, jellyfish are
becoming more numerous and more widespread, and they are showing up in places
where they have rarely been seen before, scientists say.

While no good global database exists on jellyfish populations, the
increasing reports from around the world have convinced scientists that the
trend is real, serious and climate-related, although they caution that
jellyfish populations in any one place undergo year-to-year variation.

So, once again we have a "scientific" conclusion based on nothing more than anecdotal evidence. A conclusion that refuses to even investigate any of numerous alternative causes for this phenomenon, if it exists at all. Notice also that the NYT tells us that all of this has "convinced" not some, most or just one scientist, but implies that this too is beyond debate.

$500,000 will be awarded to the first person to prove, in a scientific manner, that humans are causing harmful global warming. The winning entry will specifically reject both of the following two hypotheses:

UGWC Hypothesis 1
Manmade emissions of greenhouse gases do not discernibly, significantly and predictably cause increases in global surface and tropospheric temperatures along with associated stratospheric cooling.

UGWC Hypothesis 2
The benefits equal or exceed the costs of any increases in global temperature caused by manmade greenhouse gas emissions between the present time and the year 2100, when all global social, economic and environmental effects are considered.

I DEVOTED six years to carbon accounting, building models for the Australian Greenhouse Office. I am the rocket scientist who wrote the carbon accounting model (FullCAM) that measures Australia's compliance with the Kyoto Protocol, in the land use change and forestry sector.

When I started that job in 1999 the evidence that carbon emissions caused global warming seemed pretty good: CO2 is a greenhouse gas, the old ice core data, no other suspects.

The evidence was not conclusive, but why wait until we were certain when it appeared we needed to act quickly? Soon government and the scientific community were working together and lots of science research jobs were created. We scientists had political support, the ear of government, big budgets, and we felt fairly important and useful (well, I did anyway). It was great. We were working to save the planet.

But since 1999 new evidence has seriously weakened the case that carbon emissions are the main cause of global warming, and by 2007 the evidence was pretty conclusive that carbon played only a minor role and was not the main cause of the recent global warming. As Lord Keynes famously said, "When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, sir?"

How many skeptical scientists and contrary evidence do we need before this global joke is finally thrown on the ash heap of history? Notice the hard sell of the GW parishioners. It must be addressed now! There's no time! That's the oldest strong arm sales tactic in the book. Don't let them think about it, otherwise they'll figure out the deal stinks.

Notice also every solution to this mythical problem. More government, more taxes, more regulations and less liberty and freedom. How hard is it for anyone but the most stupid or fanatical to see what's going on here?

Another Salvo Fired at The Church of Global Warming

A group at the American Physical Society (APS, 50,000) called the Physics and Society Forum has added its members to the thousands of scientists skeptical of the man-made global warming hoax. Non-scientist and lunatic Al Gore will no doubt ignore them or call them outliers while refusing to debate anyone on the subject, despite numerous invitations to do so. One of those challengers is Lord Christopher Monckton , whose paper on the subject revealed facts that Gore wont address or refute because he can't. Among those are:

*The IPCC's 2007 climate summary overstated CO2's impact on temperature by 500-2000%;

*CO2 enrichment will add little more than 1 °F (0.6 °C) to global mean surface temperature by 2100;

*Not one of the three key variables whose product is climate sensitivity can be measured directly;

*The IPCC's values for these key variables are taken from only four published papers, not 2,500;

*The IPCC's values for each of the three variables, and hence for climate sensitivity, are overstated;

*"Global warming" halted ten years ago, and surface temperature has been falling for seven years;

*Not one of the computer models relied upon by the IPCC predicted so long and rapid a cooling;

*The IPCC inserted a table into the scientists' draft, overstating the effect of ice-melt by 1000%;

And my favorites:

*It was proved 50 years ago that predicting climate more than two weeks ahead is impossible;

*Mars, Jupiter, Neptune's largest moon, and Pluto warmed at the same time as Earth warmed;

*In the past 70 years the Sun was more active than at almost any other time in the past 11,400 years.
